Knotel Rolls Out the Red Carpet for RBG
“At Knotel, one of our core values is “Don’t Look Away,”’ meaning that we value showing up, and caring about the details no one told you about. We feel that perhaps nobody embodies the “Don’t Look Away” credo more than Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who has fought for the rights of marginalized people throughout her storied career.
So, on October 17, we brought together more than 125 of our Knotel family and friends at Experience by Knotel for a special screening of the award-winning documentary “RBG,” complete with red-carpet photocall. (Sadly, RBG herself wasn’t able to attend but we didn’t let that stand in the way of a great photo op.)
After sipping down cocktails and enjoying the tiniest tacos, crab cakes and lobster rolls we’ve ever seen, we got down to business. If you aren’t familiar with Justice Ginsburg’s arguments before the Supreme Court and transformative dissents from the bench, please put “RBG” on your watchlist.
Joining us for a anecdote-filled post-screening Q&A were former RGB clerk Vincent Levy, now a partner at Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP, and writer/producer Natalie Nudell, who is working on a documentary film about the late Ruth Finley, a New York fashion icon.
Levy clerked for Justice Ginsburg for the 2009–2010 Supreme Court term, a covered role that involves working closely with a Justice in conducting research, making recommendations on which cases to hear, and preparing drafts of opinions.
When asked how accurately the film depicted RBG, Levy responded, “With Justice Ginsburg, what you see is what you get. That’s just who she is.” Case in point, he also confirmed first-hand sightings of the now-famous “Super Diva” sweatshirt.
